On October 9, 2025, a federal grand jury in Alexandria, Virginia, indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James on one count of bank fraud and one count of making false statements to a financial institution, accusing her of misrepresenting a Norfolk home purchased in 2023 as her secondary residence to secure a lower 3% interest rate mortgage, rather than as a rental investment property that would have required a 3.815% rate, netting her an alleged $18,933 in improper savings.
